- 2008 – The MTU Buildings & Estates Office, in association with the MTU Clean Technology Centre, conducted a full Campus wide audit and review on waste and all the collection and treatment procedures being applied on campus.
- 2009 – The Buildings Office drew up a policy which saw all open top bins removed. Recycling Stations were created across the Campus, with each station assigned 3 recycling bin types. Clear instructions on segregation of waste provided a platform for uniformity and clarity on recycling
- 2010 overall campus waste generation reduced by 7.3% while at the same time increasing the Student population by 5%
- Recycling levels have continued to increase and, in conjunction with our waste service provider, we implemented further operational procedures changes. This resulted in our waste to landfill by 2017/18 was near zero
