We have been working on water conservation for over 15 years. The works and improvements undertaken have had a very positive and long-term effect and has positioned us favorably to identify water issues daily. The graph below demonstrates how effective the works, initiated on the Bishopstown Campus Cork, have been. Overall water use, by 2019, stood slightly below the usage rates of 2006, the built footprint during this period increased 6-fold.

Student population in 2006 of 6,000 increased to 10,500 by 2019. Improvements in meter replacement and installation has facilitated greater Monitoring & Reporting. This in turn has lead to an annual stabalised water use and costs. As water costs increased in 2020 by 28% our planned focus has turned to increased sub-meter installations and increased use of equipment technology.

Curraheen Road Sports Grounds & River

As the Curraheen River borders MTU to the West we are particularly aware of our responsibility to ensure the river and surrounding biodiversity is protected and preserved for future generations. This is a wonderful amenity maintained by our City Council and our students and staff derive great benefits for having this on our doorstep.
